Archive CreatorWalthall family of Alton Manor
Administrative HistoryThe estate of the Walthall family included Alton Manor in Derbyshire, property in Derby, Wistaston Manor in Cheshire and 'The Cottage' in St Asaph, Flintshire. Alton Manor was built for James Milnes of Wirksworth in 1846-1847. The manor included lands in Idridgehay, Callow and Kirk Ireton. On his death, the estate passed to the family of his wife, Anne. Henry Walthall Milnes Walthall died unmarried and the estate was left to a distant relative, Edward Walthall Delves Walthall who had assumed the surname Walthall instead of Broughton in 1887. Most of the records in this collection relate to Brigadier General Edward Charles Walthall Delves Walthall, the son of Edward Walthall Delves Walthall and Caroline Marion Walthall.
Custodial HistoryThese records were deposited in the Record Office in 1983, via the British Records Association.
