Embassador to the his m[ajesti]e the Kinge, who wrote his
l[et]tres to all p[ar]tes of the Indies & espetially to the
Gov[er]nor Potomeq’ Eldorado and
Trinidado of w[hi]ch one bare date the 19 of M[ar]ch
1617 at Madrill, when I had not yet lefte the
Thames, which l[ett]re I have sent Mr Secretary
Winwood. I have also 2 l[ett]res more of the
Kings & the Cownseles w[hi]ch I reserve. The King
sent lres also a Comission to levye 300 souldiers
out of his Garrysons de Hucuo Rieno de
Granados & Puerto:rico w[i]th 10 peeces
of brass ordinans to entrayne us. He also
provided an Armie by Sea to set upon us
it were longe to tell how we are p[re]served.
If I live I shall make it knowne. My
Braines are broken I cannot wryte mutch I
live yet & love yet. Captaine Whitney
for whom I sould my plate at Plimouth &
to whom I gave more bred & cowntrans
than to all the Captaines in My Fleet farmed
from mee at the Canaries & Wollaston.
W[i]t[h] him so as I am nowe but 5 shipps &
out of these I have sent home a rabbell of Idell
rascals w[hi[ch I knowe will not spare to wound
mee, but My frinds will not believe them
for the rest I care not. I am suer none of
them hath slept so lyttell & taken so mutch
paines as myself. God keepe & strengthen
