Summary of the will
All land and property in Great Britain (except the Coton Park estate lately purchased from Charles Stanhope Esq) to his nephew Godfrey Clarke, son of his late brother Gilbert Clarke, and to his lawful males heirs. If Godfrey Clarke (nephew) to die without issue then the estate to descend as follows subject to lawful male heirs being begotten:
- nephew Craven Kynnersley of [?]Foxley, Staffordshire
- nephew Thomas Kynnersley
- nephew Windman Samwell
- kinsman William Hanbury of Kelmarsh, Northamptonshire
- kinsman Samuel Clarke of West Bromwich, Staffordshire
Godfrey Clarke also to inherit dwelling house on Grosvenor Street [London] and all real money and personal estate
The Coton Park estate to Windman Samwell for his life unless he inherits his father (Sir Thomas Samwell). After his death or after inheriting from his father's, the Coton Park estate to go to Godfrey Clarke, nephew and his lawful male heirs - to descend as above in default of such issue.
The following are also named to receive bequests of various sums as stipulated in the will:
- Catherine Clarke and Mary Clarke (daughters of Gilbert)
- [?]Windman Samwell and Catherine Samwell (son and daughter of his sister Lady Samwell)
- Thomas Kynnersley (nephew and godson)
- brother-in-law Sir Thomas Samwell and sister Samwell
- 'honoured aunts' Lady Crewen, Jane Berher and Elizabeth Hanbury
- Lady Frederick and Dorothy Kynnersley, nieces
- kinsman William Hanbury and Elizabeth Ph...mer his sister
- kinsman Sir Samuel Clarke and Samuel Clarke his son
- George Cowlishaw, servant, plus all other servants who have served for at least one year at the time of his death
- Ann Cross, widow of John Cross of Chilcote
Godfrey Clarke, nephew, appointed sole executor
