Administrative History | Duffield is one of the ancient parishes of the county. In the seventeenth century, it included the townships of Belper, Duffield, Hazelwood, Heage, Holbrook, Shottle and Postern, Turnditch, Windley and Windley Hill. By 1845 there were chapels of ease at Belper, Heage, Holbrook and Turnditch each maintaining registers. This process continued as other ecclesiastical parishes were created in the mid- nineteenth century. |
