Letter from John Jaques to William Philp Perrin

5 Jan 1796
Description
'Negroes' [Black peoples] offered for sale by Dr. McVicar are priced too high; if Perrin wishes to purchase, Jaques will procur a fair valuation; some canes at Vere have been burned down by "runaway slaves skulking amongst the canes"; Jaques now has charge of the Kingston Regiment; martial law continues into its sixth month; blood hounds have been sent in after the Maroons.
