TRANSLATION
To all the sons of the holy mother church: ye should know that I, Robert, son of Nigel sal(?) have given to God and granted my patrimony by inheritance to God and St. Mary and St. Egidius and the canons of Calc land of two ploughlands in Chegworth, with one dwelling house (or tenement) at the entrance to the vill on the western side and to the southern side of the highway, namely thirty(?)- two acres (xvi) on one side and (xvi) on the other side in perpetual alms for the salvation of the souls of myself my wife, my father and mother, my brother(s) and my sister(s) and all my ancestors. These alms should be free and quit of all customary services and all legal actions and pleas insofar as they pertain to me. This land is free of all external services, except for service to the king. William, my brother, the canons and my mother have confirmed the boundary (of this land).
