Description
These documents, which may have originally been part of one or more series, were received as individual items from Buxton Public Library in October 1980. Nothing further is known of their provenance.
Families mentioned in the deeds include: Eyre of Hope, Eyre of Dronfield Woodhouse, Barber of Castleton, Royse of Castleton, Bright of Barlborough and Norton of Buxton.
Of especial historical interest are documents concerning coal mines in Dronfield, 1756, lead mines and a lead smelting furnace in Bradwell, 1763-1857, a petrification shop in Castleton, 1846, Syddal Cottage, Barlborough, 1754-1768, and inns in Buxton comprising the Eagle & Child and Bull's Head, later Wheatsheaf, 1738-1796.
