| Administrative History | Derbyshire County Council's property services function included a prominent role for the County Architect, who had overall responsibility for accommodation of the authority's services. Particularly notable was the 1904 appointment of George H. Widdows (1871-1946) as the Education Committee building surveyor. In 1910 he was promoted to Chief Architect. During the course of his Derbyshire career, Widdows designed 60 elementary schools and 17 secondary schools. His designs were highly influential on school buildings throughout the country. |
