Administrative HistoryDerbyshire County Council's property services function included a prominent role for the County Architect, who had overall responsibility for accommodation of the authority's services. Particularly notable was the 1904 appointment of County Architect George H. Widdows (1871-1946). During the course of his Derbyshire career, Widdows designed 60 elementary schools and 17 secondary schools. His designs were highly influential on school buildings throughout the country.
