Administrative History
Ambergate was formerly part of the parish of Heage (D1565). A mission was set up in 1887 and a church built in 1890-1891; it was intended that this should be a chapel of ease to Heage. In 1899, Ambergate became a separate ecclesiastical parish. The mission church of Sawmills St Mary was started in 1903.
