Lomberdale Hall was built by the antiquary Thomas Bateman in 1844 specifically to display his extensive collection of archaeological specimens, artefacts and printed books. Bateman's collection was dispersed after his death and Lomberdale Hall was sold by Thomas's son, T W Bateman to the Helland family in 1893. It was subsequently purchased by the Waterhouse family.
