ASHTON CHARITY FOR THE POOR. Charity No. 234551.
Benjamin Ashton of Hathersage bequeathed several sums in his will of 1718 (proved 1725):
- £5 for the education of the poorest boys of Hathersage and Outseats in reading English
- £3 or a yearly sermon to be preached in the Parish Church of Hathersage on St Thomas Day [3 July]
- £2 to be distributed yearly to the poorest people of Hathersage and Outseats on St Thomas Day
- £100 for procuring Queen Anne's Bounty to Hathersage parish church
- £10 10s for the creation of a school

In 1891, The Old School charity, founded by an indenture of 16 Jan 1840 between Thomas Marsden and Broughton Benjamin Pegge Burnell and others, became The Hathersage Educational Charity. The Old School (also known as Marsden's School) was sold in 1897.

1980: Geer Green and Ibbotson Educational Charity funds were combined in the same account and scheme for dispersal
