Explanatory letter from NUM to claimant before Appeal stated: 'The 20 per cent was only a provisional assessment and was on a weekly basis. The 10 per cent is a gratuity of £82 10s 0d but it does carry with it special hardship up to a maximum of £1 per week providing you have not gone back to your old job or a job of equivalent standard [...] You can appeal agains the 10 per cent if you feel that you have been wrongly dealt with, but if you do so you must have some supporting medical evidence'.
