Title
Medical Appeal Tribunal case file for Arthur Brown, aged 73, Pump attendant at Denby Drury-Lowe, relating to an Industrial Accident
Date
1950
Description
Date of birth: 29/07/1876
Marital status: Married
Address: Mona Bank, Denby Village
Type of injury: Injury - finger
Description of accident: Hand caught whilst cleaning under the conveyor belt, and was flung against prop
Further information: Brown's grounds of appeal included: 'If the Old Scheme is void or Dead and the New Scheme refuses to acknowledge disability rising from previous injury where do we stand [...] To me the Regimented Structure of the New Scheme seems void of sentiment. [...] I am already granted funeral expenses, but I am not dead yet. I fought for Freedom and those unable to fight for themselves. I worked hard for it, and I have payed heavy for it. Do what the Devil you like I am working to the best of my Disability.' Further appeal papers in April 1951 in regard to dermatitis Prescribed Industrial Disease no 24b. for which a Medical Board on 29 January 1951 had awarded a 'less than 20 per cent' loss of faculty, not permanent. On 30 May 1951 the NUM Compensation Agent withdrew the appeal. By then Brown had accepted a surface job and didn't feel the case was worth pursuing.
