Further information: Surgery to remove loose cartilage May 1950 in Chesterfield Hosspital. Relevant condition given as I.D.K. (Internal derangement of knee). Weight 15 stone at first medical in April 1950 and 18 stones in July 1952 (5'10" tall). orthopaedic surgeon's report in May 1952 includes: 'Short of a forcible manipulation under anaesthesia this man is ulikely to gain any further flexion in his knee [...] He will not therefore ever be fit for work involving long walking underground or working on his knee'.
