Date1959
DescriptionDate of birth:
Marital status: Married
Address: Not given, Not given

Further information: According to the Summary of facts in the Appeal referral, the claimant contracted Dermatitis on 11 April 1949. He claimed disablement benefit after being off work for four months and the loss of faculty was assessed at 5 per cent for life. There is detailed correspondence relating to Dermatitis and the type of work suitable for someone suffering with the condition, in particular the question of whether belt maintenance (which the claimant was doing previously at Grassmoor) was suitable, or available. For 6 years before contracting Dermatitis he was employed as a bye-worker. He continued until June 1959 when the Colliery, Grassmoor, closed (as stated in the Summary of facts, Appeal referral). He became a gear head attendant at Williamthorpe colliery and claimed special hardship allowance due to loss of earnings, which was disallowed. The appeal on 17 December 1959 was also disallowed. In the claimant's grounds of appeal dated 12 October 1959 it states 'My regular job is as a conveyor attendant, and this involves working in a very dusty atmosphere. Part of my duties are to clean up dust accumulations and this undoubtedly aggravates my skin condition.'
