The claimant has a history head injury, and fractured his skull '30 years ago.' According to the Summary of facts in the Appeal referral, on 4 March 1959 he claimed he had met with an accident at work on 21 January 1959 which resulted in a head injury. It was accepted and injury benefit was paid from 21 to 28 February 1959. A letter from Nottingham General Hospital dated 28 April 1959 states 'I found it quite impossible to come to a conclusion about this man which satisfied me. On the face of it one could find absolutely no evidence of disease, and his story of dizziness seemed purely psychological. It is quite amazing that he should have stayed off work so long for such a small amount of disability [...] I did notice [...] that he did not swing his right arm when he was walking. I could not find out why, and it certainly was not spastic.' Following the report of the Divisional Medical Officer of Health injury benefit was disallowed. The appeal was dismissed on 24 June 1959. In the Note of evidence in the Report of Proceedings it states 'Accident by fall of stone on shoulder, head, fractured neck.' |
