Further information: According to a Specialist's report dated 26 March 1959, the claimant had a crush injury when he was trapped between a fall of coal and a pit prop on 19 December 1951. He developed haematuria which cleared up. After physiotherapy he was discharged as fit for work in May 1952. Since then he has been on light work. The report also states 'Two years ago he received a course of psychiatric treatment in Mickleover Hospital.' He is described as 'Rather heavily built, thickset man.' He was given an assessment of 6 per cent for life from 25 July 1954. He has been working as a gearhead attendant and received Special Hardship Allowance. On 6 January 1959 a Medical Board decided he was fit for his regular occupation. On appeal it was decided that the claimant was incapable of work and the full rate of special hardship allowance was awarded until 19 January 1960.
