Description | Date of birth: Marital status: Married Address: 21 Hill Grove, Barrow Hill Type of benefit claimed: Special Hardship Allowance Type of injury: Injuries - chest, shoulder Further information: Theaker suffered an industrial accident in October 1955 and a final disablement assessment was made of 7 per cent for life from February 1957. Special Hardship Allowance was discontinued after Medical Board report: 'Incapacity for work due to constitutional neurosis unconnected with relevant injury' (January 1957). Medical Appeal in March 1957. GP submittted: 'Since his accident [...] he has deteriorated physically and mentally and it seems improbable that he can be built up again. [...] the accident (12.10.55) is directly responsible for his present poor physical and nervous condition. Probably about 50 per cent'. On 4 April 1957 a Local Appeal for Special Hardship Allowance to be continued was favourable to the claimant. In February 1958 Theaker was working as a haulage hand and Mr Kitts acting as his representative for the NUM gave: 'Sometimes he makes a little overtime. He has a good working record. Cannot lift because of chest trouble. Cannot lift or shovel for any length of time. He has tried pick and shovel but cannot do his own job'. Wage comparisons were given. |
