Title
Local Appeal Tribunal case file for Frederick Price, aged 40, Filler at "A" Winning
Date
1955
Description
Date of birth:
Marital status: Single
Address: 3 Garden Crescent, South Normanton
Type of benefit claimed: Special Hardship Allowance
Type of injury: Injury - eye
Further information: Working as a conveyor attendant since accident. Claimant's appeal included: 'On my present job […] the area is well illuminated and there is not the usual need to keep a watchful eye on roof conditions and falling coals etc. as would be the case on coal face work. [...] I would be a danger to myself if working on my old job'. Mr Kitts for NUM: ' Needs to be 100% fit in those cramped quarters. LIghting is by cap lamp only [...] He can't see to his left without turning his head [...] That means the roof to his right is out of vision. He also has to watch the conveyor belt which is very close to him. He is not a one-eyed man, but his bad eye is no use to him for his work.'
