Title
Local Appeal Tribunal case file for George Herbert Bilbie, aged 41, Back Ripper at Glapwell
Date
1953
Description
Date of birth: 31/07/1914
Marital status: Single
Address: 47 Station Road, Hepthorne Lane, Chesterfield
Type of benefit claimed: Special Hardship Allowance
Type of injury: Injury - knee
Further information: Bilbie withdrew his appeal in April 1956, having only expressed his wish to appeal at the end of March. Bilbie had made a number of claims prior to the withdrawal of this appeal: in 1949 a Medical Board found that he was not suffering from the prescribed industrial disease Miners' Nystagmus; in October 1951 a Medical Board assessed the extent of his disablement following a injury to his right knee at 'less than 20 per cent'. The latter case went to a Medical Appeal Tribunal on 17 January 1952, which found against the Medical Board, concluding that Bilbie's loss of faculty was likely to be permanent, assessing it at 10 per cent for life. It was a final, rather than provisional, assessment.
