He did not make an appeal. He was then working as a back ripper, earning an average of £11. 13s. 10d. whereas in his old employment as a stinter, the average was £10. 0s. 8d). On 23rd March 1952 he lost his job and was put onto haulage work at a much lower wage. the Commissioner states 'If he is capable of doing a job which is still being done...he is not entitled to a payment under section 14. The fact that he is redundant and cannot obtain the job does not in law mean that he is incapable of doing it.'Old occupation: Originally a Stinter then a Back ripper 'I work on my knees at the coal face'. |
