According to the Insurance Officer, on 2 February 1949 Barker slipped when 'lifting a lump of stone for packing and strained his groin'. A final notice of the tribunal's verdict has not survived but It appears that Barker's claim was unsuccessful - a pencil note at front of the file reads, 'Lost' - and that the original assessment of 10 per cent for life remained unchanged.
