He received injury benefit until 7 November 1951 and then claimed disablement benefit. He was awarded a gratuity. A claim for Special Hardship Allowance was made on 11 November 1952. His job as a Packer and Timber drawer were 'drawing off steel props by means of sylvester (steel bar and chain) and packing dirt with lumps of stone to prevent it falling.' He had been doing this job for 12 years and estimated his average weekly earnings were £14. 10s. 0d. After he returned to work his duties were Coal Miner (Push button operator). According to a Ministry form, his earnings during July and August 1952 ranged from £5. 12. 11. to £14. 11. 3. an old injury to his right ring finger has been aggravated by the recent injury - the finger is 'deformed and grip weakened.' A handwritten note says 'against' at the top - Chesterfield Tribunal 12 February 1953. |
