Further information: Mr Booth is 63 years old at the time of the tribunal. He had been a coal-face worker until September 1948, when he injured his right hand, for which he was awarded a life pension of 30 per cent. Following the end of his 'incapacity for work', he was employed as an underground motor driver. There is a claim dated 4 June 1952 relating to an accident on 1 January 1951 (30 per cent). Further decisions are made in December 1951 (20 per cent), June 1952 (10 per cent) and January 1953 (5 per cent). Mr Booth was a coal face worker, doing 'heavy manual work often in very bad conditions, entailing the use of shovel, pick, hammer-crow bar.' After the accident he was in 'light employment' as a belt attendant. His reason for appealing against the decision was 'owing to me being incapable of following my occupation through my disablement.' There is a note that he has been incapable of work since 14 February 1953 owing to coronary thrombosis. There is no evidence that the hearing went ahead on the notification of hearing form, but there is a pencilled note on the date of hearing notification that says 'Against.'
