Further information: Claim for Industrial Death Benefit for Baden Powell Ball who worked as a coal miner (Switch operator) at Blackwell Colliery from 1913 to August 1961 when a Medical Board accepted that his cause of incapacity to work was partly due to pneumoconiosis. He died aged 62 on 27 November 1962 and the death certificate gave the cause of death as: Congestive cardiac failure; Calcific aortic stenosis; Simple miners pneumoconiosis. The Pneumoconiosis Medical Board stated: 'we cannot accept that because pneumoconiosis was present therefore it must have had a hastening effect on death'.
