Title
Local Appeal Tribunal case file for Henry Edgar Martin, aged 59, Packer at Coppice
Date
1960
Description
Date of birth: 10/07/1900
Marital status: Married
Address: 96 Heanor Road, Smalley
Type of benefit claimed: Special Hardship Allowance
Type of injury: Injury - leg
Further information: Following the accident in 1956, Martin had suffered with arthritic changes in both hips possibly aggravated by the accident and a final life assessment was made of 2 per cent from May 1958 and this was upheld at Medical Appeal Tribunal 29 January 1960. He had bilateral arthroplasty performed in 1959. For the Special Hardship Allowance appeal, a consultant orthopaedic opinion was obtained; the report started that the pre-existing arthritis worsened after the accident as 'the result of the natural progress of the disease' and appended an extract from a medical text book.
