Further information: Joseph Kitts, the NUM Derbyshire Area's Compensation Agent, presented evidence to the tribunal on Oakley's behalf, describing the latter's claim as a 'Simple Case'. Oakley was 'Practically blind' and 'One eye was very bad'. He thought he was receiving the correct amount but he a friend pointed out that he should be reciving more if he had claimed an increase for dependants, namely his wife. The tribunal allowed the claim, giving the grounds of their decision as 'Illiterate type. Wife filled in form for him - bad eyesight. Good and reasonable cause shown'.
