Description | Date of birth: 11/04/1913 Marital status: Married Address: Not given, Not given Type of benefit claimed: Injury benefit Type of injury: Epidermophytosis; Athlete's Foot Further information: According to the Local Office Report, Nash claimed he was informed that he was entitled to injury benefit as Athlete's Foot was a prescribed industrial disease, but was later told by the Insurance Officer that this was incorrect. A letter from Nash's own doctor, dated 26 July 1952, described Nash's condition as epidermophytosis and went on to write, 'I came to the conclusion this fungi infection was picked up in the mine baths. He is a man of clean habits and it is not likely his condition was due to faulty foot hygiene.' Nash had previously been examined by a Divisional Medical Examining Officer who described his condition as 'a fungus infection - Wrists - palms - fingers, and soles of both feet - A constitutional condition associated with a highly strung make up and much continual sweating apart from obtaining at work'. There is no record of the tribunal's final decision, or if it even went to the tribunal. The file includes a copy of a decision by the Commissioner relating to epidermophytosis in relation to pit head baths. |
