TitleLocal Appeal Tribunal case file for Arthur Antcliffe, aged 41, Coal face filler at New Langley
Date1951
DescriptionDate of birth: 11/12/1909
Marital status: Married
Address: 138/140 Bath Street, Ilkeston
Type of benefit claimed: Special Hardship Allowance
Type of injury: Hernia
Further information: Antcliffe had an accident on 23 June 1950, and was subsequently diagnosed with a hernia. He remained at work until March 1951 when he claimed injury benefit. Antcliffew was then awarded a disablement pension: an award of 20 percent covering the period 22 December 1950 (the end of the injury benefit period) to 21 September 1951. He went on to make a further claim, for Hospital Treatment Allowance, and received an increase between 7 March to 31 March 1951. Antlciffe's claim for a Special Hardship Allowance, however, was disallowed by the Insurance Officer and the Local Appeal Tribunal, citing a similar case that had gone before the Commissioners (CI 254/50), because he had continued to work at his original job for a period after the injury benefit period had ended. The case does not appear to have gone any further, despite Antcliffe's wish for a further appeal.
