TitleLocal Appeal Tribunal case file for George Lowe, aged 47, Cleaning up at Whitwell
Date1949
DescriptionDate of birth: 11/02/1901
Marital status: Not given
Address: 27 Duchess Street, Whitwell
Type of benefit claimed: Special Hardship Allowance
Type of injury: Injury - elbow
Further information: Lowe had previously worked as a packer before injuring his arm, which was caused when he pulled a bottom belt out and caught his elbow on a prop. Concern was expressed, in a letter to the Joseph Kitts, the Area Compensation Agent, by a social worker from the South Yorks Miners' Rehabilitation Committee as to how a gratuity is paid, either as a lump sum or weekly pension; as Lowe had chosen to receive a lump sum when he was originally awarded a disablement gratuity he was not entitled to a Hospital Treatment Allowance.
