Peak Methodist Circuit
Administrative History
The Peak Methodist Circuit was first established in 1944, the product of the amalgamation of the North Derbyshire Mission (ex-Wesleyan) Circuit and Bakewell (ex-Primitive) Circuit. In 1948 it was merged with the Bradwell (ex-Primitive) circuit to become known as the Peak and Bradwell Methodist Circuit. It reverted in 1958 to the present name of Peak Methodist Circuit.
The North Derbyshire Mission Wesleyan Circuit had been set up in 1905, following the amalgamation of the Bakewell Wesleyan Circuit and the Bradwell Wesleyan Circuit. The Bakewell Wesleyan Circuit had been in existence since at least 1826, and the Bradwell Wesleyan Circuit can trace itself back to 1824.
The Bradwell Primitive Methodist Circuit had been in existence for at least 125 years before its merger in 1948.
The Bakewell Primitive Methodist Circuit was originally known as Winster Methodist Circuit and several churches within it can be found under reference number D1634.
