Administrative History
Birchinlee was a settlement built for workers constructing the Derwent and Howden dams between 1902 and 1916. It was known as ‘Tin Town’, but had all the amenities and infrastructure of a village. At its peak, it housed about 900 people
Custodial History
Acquired by Derbyshire Record Office in 1977. This list was added to the online catalogue as part of the FindersKeepers project, with the help of Elissa Rowe.
