Administrative HistoryThe present Whitwell Manor House or Old Hall was built about 1593 by Sir John Manners of Haddon. From about 1650 it was let to the Clayton family as tenants. Other tenants succeeded and part of the building was used for the Whitwell National School in the mid-19th century
