Administrative History | Shardlow Rural Sanitary Authority was formed in 1872. In 1894 it became Shardlow Rural District Council and in the late 1950s South East Derbyshire Rural District Council. It was in existence from 1894 until 1974, when the Council was abolished, some of the area it covered became part of Erewash Borough Council.
The district included the parishes of: Alvaston, Aston-on-Trent, Barrow-on-Trent, Borrowash, Breadsall, Breaston, Chaddesden, Chellaston, Dale Abbey, Draycott, Elvaston, Little Eaton, Littleover, Melbourne, Morley, Ockbrook, Risley, Sandiacre, Shardlow, Spondon, Stanley, Stanley Common, Stanton by Dale, Stanton by Bridge, West Hallam, Weston-on-Trent
The parishes of Aston on Trent, Elvaston, Melbourne, Shardlow, Stanton by Bridge, and Weston on Trent became part of the new District of South Derbyshire in 1974. Chellaston was integrated into Derby Borough Council in the 1960s, as were several other parishes. |
