Archive CreatorWakebridge and Pole families
Administrative HistoryThe Wakebridge estates passed to the Pole family as a result of the marriage of John de la Pole of Newborough (Staffordshire), and Cecilie, sister and heir of William de Wakebridge (died 1356). The Poles obtained Spinkhill in the sixteenth century as a result of the marriage of George Pole of Wakebridge and Ellen, daughter of Richard Haselhurst of Spinkhill. The deposit also contains a number of deeds to property in Yorkshire as a result of the marriage of Edmund, son of the above John de la Pole, to Alice, widow of John Raghton of York (Yorkshire) and daughter of John Braythwayt of York (Yorkshire). There is a calendar of D1233/MT/ 1-116 and D1233/MF/1-5 at D1233 Z/Z1. D1233/MT/ 2 is the original of an entry in the Cartulary of the chantry founded by the Pole family in the parish church of Crich. The Cartulary was edited by Professor A. Saltman and was published, together with D1233/MT/ 2-4 as "The Cartulary of the Wakebridge Chantries at Crich (Derbyshire Archaeological Society Record Series, 1976).
