Title	E B [Edward Bird] to Col Thomas Sanders at his lodging at the Sugar Loaf in the Broad Sanctuary near St Margaret's church, Westminster - 'these lines must present you a sad message from your friends - you and other good men's enemies have prevailed as to procure an order from Haberdasher's Hall* to seize and take an inventory of all your real and personal estate - some of us hope it is unknown to Parliament, the Council or yourself - it seems it was their policy to strike first where there was least suspicion - shall men be judged before they be heard? - it seems the grandees of Haberdasher's Hall can make haste to make an order by the first return of the post - Mr Frost, who would have written but has gone along with them to Ireton to prevent Mrs Sanders affrights, asked me to let you know of this business and suggested that you petition the House for the revoking of the orders.
