TitleDraft petition from the Derby Committee (to the Earl of Essex) (Feb?)
Datec1644-c1645
Descriptionwe have perused a writing by Sir John Gell relation to the agreement between himself and Major Sanders, and a commission granted by your excellency to the said major with power of choosing his own officers - we have read your last letter to Major Sanders and are much grieved that you should remand the said commission for we fear one of the bravest regiments of horse in the North would be dissolved - we assure you that the honest party adhere to Parliament - we perceive you suggest that the major does not obey the colonel but we cannot see wherein the disobedience lies - the major raised the regiment when the county was in the greatest despair and they have done very good service - he desires he may be called to account and clear himself - we ask that in the meantime he may have his liberty attend his charge for he is now confined
