Glossop Union Certificates and complaints of chargeability, settlement examinations and removal orders

Description
• Lettice Sutton, wife of William Sutton: married at Glossop in 1825; had four children; William Sutton left in 1842, believed to be in America; Lettice Sutton moved to Glossop in 1847; became chargeable having lost an arm; (papers include statement by Benjamin Sutton, son of John Sutton of Hartington, husband of Martha Woodward and father of William Sutton). Order 22 Mar 1849 for Lettice Sutton and son Alfred to be removed to Hartington Town Quarter
• John Howard: married Betty Shaw, widow at Mottram in Longdendale, had two children; lived at Tintwistle with father Henry Howard. Order 5 Oct 1848 for John Howard, wife and children Clary and Tom to be removed to Tintwistle
• John Corless: son of William and Mary Corless of Upholland, Lancashire; married Mary Varley, 17 Apr 1834 at St John’s, Manchester; (papers include parish register extract and evidence of James Corless, brother of John Corless). Order 28 Jun 1849 for removal of John Corless, wife and children Margaret, Thomas, John and Joseph from Glossop to Upholland
• Robert White: born 1793 at Hucknall Torkard, son of Richard White and Sarah Wilmot married 22 Mar 1780 at Hucknall Torkard; (papers include parish register extract and evidence from Ann White, sister of Robert White); lived at Papplewick, Nottinghamshire. Order 19 Oct 1848 for removal of Robert White, wife Ann and daughter Sarah Ann (aged 30 years) from Glossop to Hucknall Torkard
• Jerry Sidebotham (aged about 4 years), William Ellis Sidebotham (aged about 2 years), and Ellis Sidebotham (aged about 10 weeks), orphan children of Ellis and Betty Sidebotham, nee Fielding: Ellis Sidebotham died in March 1849 and Betty died in July 1849. Ellis was a son of Joshua Sidebotham and his wife Martha; (papers include apprentice indenture, 6 Apr 1805 of placement of Joshua Sidebotham by church warden and overseers of Mottram in Longdendale with William Line [signs Lyne] of Hollingworth, weaver; and evidence from William Sidebotham, brother of Joshua Sidebotham). Order 6 Sep 1849 for removal of Jerry Sidebotham, William Ellis Sidebotham and Ellis Sidebotham to Hollingworth.
