Title
Butterley Company correspondence file on the purchase and lease of lands owned by the Duke of Portland, including for Portland, Bentinck and Kirkby collieries

Description
With list of plans and leases or purchases of land in relation to the Duke of Portland made by the New Hucknall Company, who leases the lower seam for the Butterley Company Ltd. Totals of coal worked, including bad coal, at the Portland and Kirkby collieries. Mention is also made to surrendering land owned in Sutton-in-Ashfield so it can be subleased to the South Normanton Company. List of repairs to be made at Kirkby and Portland collieries between 1893 and 1908 with attached list of repairs to be made at properties in the area of these collieries. Hand drawn tracing of plan showing surface at Sowter's Farm and The Grives, early 20th cent, scale 6 inches to 1 mile, 16 cm x 23 cm.
