Notes
Described as "a gritstone crop, on a steep escarpment on the north-east side of the Derwent valley, upon which stands a small farm... The outcrop appears on Burdett's County map of Derbyshire (1767, updated 1791). It is given some prominence, equal to a number of settlements, farms and landmarks, but it is apparently the landmark, not the farm, which is being described" (Mel Morris Conservation, December 2006, 'Castle Topm Lea Bridge and High Junction Conservation Area Appraisal, pp. 2-3; prepared on behalf of Derbyshire Dales District Council)
