History
Chesterfield parish also included the townships of Brimington, Calow, Hasland, Newbold with Dunston, Tapton, Temple Normanton and Walton. Many of these places became separate parishes in the nineteenth century, and other parishes were created in Chesterfield: Calow in 1862, Hasland in 1851, Newbold in 1857, Temple Normanton in 1863, Walton in 1916, Chesterfield Christ Church in 1869, Chesterfield Holy Trinity in 1838, and Chesterfield St Augustine in 1930. A mission church of St Leonard was set up in Spital in 1909. Brimington and Wingerworth were parochial chapelries of Chesterfield, though in the case of Brimington the earlier registers do not survive.
