History
The hospital was built on the site of Durrant Hall in 1859 and became the Royal Hospital in 1919 Various additions and extensions were made over the years. Originally, administered by a Board of Management, it became part of the National Health Service in 1948. In 1984 the hospital moved to new premises at Calow near Chesterfield.
The North Derbyshire Hospital Committee was responsible for running several hospitals in the area before the establishment of the National Health Service in 1948.
