Founded by Philip Rose in 1868 as The Foreign & Colonial Government Trust, the company specialised in investing in Government bonds. It was the first collective investment scheme in the world. In 1891 it became the Foreign & Colonial Investment Trust. In 2018 it shortened its name to F&C Investment Trust.
