Biography	George Treby was the eldest son of Sir George Treby (1643-1700) of Plympton, Devon and his third wife, Dorothy Grainge. In 1692 he was admitted at Middle Temple, as his father had been before him, but on the death of his father in 1700, he inherited his estates in Plympton. He followed his father into parliament, being elected as a Whig Member of Parliment for the Rotten Borough of Plympton Erle in 1708. He remained MP for Plympton until 1727, when he became MP for Dartmouth. In 1718, Treby was appointed Secretary at War. In 1724 the prime minister, Sir Robert Walpole, appointed Henry Pelham Secretary of War and Treby became Teller of the Exchequer until 1727. He was became Master of the Household 1730-1740; in 1740 he became a Lord of the Treasury.
