Educated at Christ's Hospital and Pembroke College, Cambridge, of which he became a fellow; he was ordained as a deacon in 1841 and priest in 1844; he helped to promote the Oxford Movement and a member of the Cambridge Camden Society, which was established to promote church restoration and the revival of ritual; from 1848 to 1869 he was Headmaster of Royal Armagh School; he married Elizabeth Susanna, daughter of William Hammond Turner of Eltham, Kent on 12 July 1849; hey had one son, Laurence Nunns Guillemard and five daughters.
