He was barrister at Lincoln's Inn from 1806, and later a King's/Queen's Counsel from 1831 In 1814 he married Mary Griffin (sister of Jane Griffin, later Lady Jane Franklin) : they had two sons, John Nassau and Francis Guillemard, and three daughters who lived to adulthood, Mary Louisa, Emma Jane and Marianne Jane. In October 1845 he was knighted.
