Educated at Grantham School and St John's College, Cambridge. He was ordained as a deacon in 1854 and as a priest in 1855. He served as Curate of South Ormsby wirh Driby, 1853-1857, and Vicar of Welton-le-Marsh, 1857-1871. He was Rector of Gunby, 1866-1871 and Rector of Toynton, 1871-1873, before being Rector of Coningsby in 1873-1913. He was Prebendary Canon of Lincoln from 1875 to 1920.
