Administrative History | Spire Lodge opened in March 1981 and was still in operation as of November 2017. The centre supports disabled children, young people (aged 10-18) and their families, particularly those with service learning difficultities who may also have additional physical and sensory needs, through the provision of short breaks (including overnight stays) one-off or regular daytime and weekend activities and support to attend other local activities or amenities. In 1995, the site was also using Hasland Resource Centre facilities for under-8s.
Located on Sheffield Road in Chesterfield alongside The Outback (providing residential care and respite for disabled children and young people) and Red House (providing residential care for older persons). Within Spire Lodge, there is a high dependency area and a more independent area. Clientele: Short break and shared care for disabled children and young people age 10-18 years who have severe learning difficulties and may have additional physical and sensory impairments. In March 1997, there were 12 short-term places. |
