Administrative History | The purchase of the building for a children's home having been raised in May 1947, Springhill opened in 1949. By 1961 it was a Reception Home to be used for boys aged under 12 accommodated temporarily on remand. From 1963 a special school was attached to the centre (see D3997) and in 1971 the site was granted special school status. Between 1965 and 1967 it was known as Springhill Reception Centre. In November 1978 approval was given for an extension to the Observation and Assessment Centre. The home and school closed in 1993 following a review of special education in Derbyshire. |
